A bit about Yo Soy Underground supper :
We host unique dining experiences at museums, art galleries, cafés, private homes, and other non-traditional settings with the goal of redefining the way we dine and connect with food. Yo Soy's "Mexican Inspired" menu is theme-based and carefully assembled drawing from our travels, holidays, and other unique ideas not normally explored by restaurants.
The term "Underground Supper" refers to the fact that the culinary experiences created by Yo Soy are constantly on the move, and have a high elusive factor. The "Pop-Up Suppers" are more defined by the meal being held at numerous locations around the city of Chicago. Yo Soy "Pop Up's" are in traditional, or non-traditional restaurant locations and create experiences that are sometimes "one-time" only events or an ongoing once a month visiting chef experience. The setting of the meals consists of communal tables of food lovers, artists, adventurous diners, etc,. Diners are notified via social media or word of mouth about the supper, and are typically given disclosure of the location eight hours before the event is to take place. Seats to the events are available only through our website and limited in availability.
Yo Soy Underground Supper is a labor of love that has allowed foodies, friends and strangers to gather over the past five years, allowing us the opportunity to experiment with different recipes and menu items that we hope to one day showcase in our very own restaurant. We cannot wait to meet and feed you!

a december to remember!

the "feyo suéter" a.k.a. ugly sweater dinner party this past sunday was hilarious and delicious! we had everyone donned in their gayest yuletide outfit ready to feast on the "best of yo soy 2010" dishes. we did a pumpkin play on the pork potstickers that everyone loves, we also represented with the carrot star anise soup that made me "fall" for brian, and we busted out the claypots for the cajeta claypot chicken that was mouthwatering good! the group that was in attendance consisted of our staple guest, ken, and also some new faces that were perfectly poised for good times (melissa and crew)! there were guests in from florida that brought a ray of sunshine and also, some that are fastly becoming regulars at our table (enrique and noah). we were thrilled to have this group at our last yo soy of the year. we were equally elated that we had an opera singer who is truly gifted and gorgeous perform handel and my fave "think of me" from phantom for us! many thanks to genevieve thiers!

on another great note, this weeks issue of time out chicago listed us as "worthiest runners-up" in the gay and lesbian "year in queer" favorite things! woooo-hooooooo! that's awesome! thanks time out, we love you, mucho.

with all the holiday festivities in full swing it definitely makes us look back on all the great people we have met through yo soy, and the amazing talent that has been shared. our hearts smile when we think of the guests that we have had that shared their sunday with us, and came together over our passion for food and hospitality. we hope to have a renewed set of faves that 2011 will produce, and memories to match, that you all will help create over the next year. the january dinner date will be set in stone this week (we are toying with 01.16.11), so please, please stay tuned!

feliz navidad!

happy chanukah!

merry christmas!

happy kwanzaa!

prospero años,

mikey + brian

p.s.- a huge thanks and hugs to josie, diane, doug, xochitl, gabby, and all of our wonderful friends who help us with every dinner. we would be lost without you guys.

holiday dinner 12.12.10! dinner is sold out!!!

so, the dinner for next sunday is going to be a culmination of some of our faves from 2010! this is the last dinner we will have before 2011, and we wanted to revisit some great dishes we have had througout the year! so, for those who did not get to try the sopes with chorizo and shrimp, get ready! also for those who have not tried the cajeta chicken, it's gonna be here! we are also throwing in some new items such as chicken and pumpkin potstickers as well as a rice pudding that we are testing out now! we are playing with the soup choice, we have had so many that were delicious, so it is a toss up between the sopa de ajo or the mexican calabasa pumpkin soup that we served for dia de los muertos! although the carrot star anise is so freakin delicious as well! uurrggh!!! delicious decisions are to be made!

we are also working on entertainment, so stay tuned!

gracias giving 2010!

the dinner on sunday was spectacular! we had a mexican chinese feast for the gods! from our poblano soup to the amish turkey mole with chinese broccoli and to finish up the meal was a fantastic spiced chocolate cake with pumpkin ice cream!

the pics speak for themselves when it comes to the festivities that were produced by the 2 performers that evening. diva kai started out the night and then was followed by sami. their music had everyone tapping their feet, clapping their hands, and singing along ( or dare i say screaming along).

we also celebrated a diners 60th birthday (happy birthday again, richard!) along with mikey's. there were birthday wishes and toasts being thrown around all evening, so each birthday guest had plenty of wishes for their hopeful new year.

let's hope our december feast will be just as memorable on 12.12.10! we are going to visit some of our favorites from the year 2010 and have a 5 course dinner to welcome in 2011, and to kiss 2010 goodbye. there will be a button up to reserve your seats in the next week, so keep checking back in!

p.s.- we hope everyone got to catch the catchiest guy in time out chicago last week! in the article, brian is giving some of his gift giving ideas that everyone should have their eye on for their loved ones! check it out!

time out article with brian!
