A bit about Yo Soy Underground supper :
We host unique dining experiences at museums, art galleries, cafés, private homes, and other non-traditional settings with the goal of redefining the way we dine and connect with food. Yo Soy's "Mexican Inspired" menu is theme-based and carefully assembled drawing from our travels, holidays, and other unique ideas not normally explored by restaurants.
The term "Underground Supper" refers to the fact that the culinary experiences created by Yo Soy are constantly on the move, and have a high elusive factor. The "Pop-Up Suppers" are more defined by the meal being held at numerous locations around the city of Chicago. Yo Soy "Pop Up's" are in traditional, or non-traditional restaurant locations and create experiences that are sometimes "one-time" only events or an ongoing once a month visiting chef experience. The setting of the meals consists of communal tables of food lovers, artists, adventurous diners, etc,. Diners are notified via social media or word of mouth about the supper, and are typically given disclosure of the location eight hours before the event is to take place. Seats to the events are available only through our website and limited in availability.
Yo Soy Underground Supper is a labor of love that has allowed foodies, friends and strangers to gather over the past five years, allowing us the opportunity to experiment with different recipes and menu items that we hope to one day showcase in our very own restaurant. We cannot wait to meet and feed you!
dinner last week was absolutely fantastico! we had a lot of new faces in the group as well as some faces we hadn't seen in a while. we are eagerly awaiting the nicer weather outside so that we can do an alfresco dinner, however, mother nature seems to hate chicago lately.
we are also planning some upcoming events that are going to be something different and exciting for us at yo soy. with the whole craze of pop up's and unique dining experiences it evokes, it was a matter of time before we decided to jump on board! look for upcoming emails and dates for your chance to be part of the delicious fun!
we will be posting our next dinner date for june next week, so in the meantime, let's pray for better weather for us here in chicago!
til' then,
mikey + brian!
tomorrow is the day!
we are busy hombres in the kitchen today! we have just come from the green city market, and it was freezing outside!!! we were picking out mushrooms, leeks, and vegetables with frozen fingers! however, our hearts were warm thinking of the dinner that we have planned for everyone.
we are doing some great recipes from puebla cuisine, which is the celebrated region of mexico during cinco de mayo, with some "yo soy" tweaks to them! so be prepared for rhubarb strawberry mezcal cocktails, mushroom + farm fresh vegetable quesadillas, semitas a cara abierto! er, roughly translated from my spanglish means "open faced mexican sandwich". also, are doing a play on chiles en nogada, by turning all the ingredients into an awesome soup with layers of flavor! the main dish is of course, mole poblano with some unique additions and nice chinese touches throughout! the dessert is an ingredient that we got carried away with in the mole, chocolate! so look forward to a chocolate and coconut combination that will be sure to make puebla proud and your stomach happy!
being b.y.o.b. and wine lovers ,we have flagged our ingredients with kafka wine at 3325 North Halsted Street, which is very close to our dinner location, so that they may help you with your choices to bring to dinner! they have over 250 wines under $15! wow!!! say hi to alex, mike and joe for us!
oh, and did we mention, we have 4 seats that have opened up! first come, first serve! grab them while you can!
SOLD OUT, AGAIN. sorry for those who just saw this, there was a small window of opportunity for these seats, that are now gone.
see you all tomorrow, and for those who cannot be here, we will post pictures to live vicariously through soon!
so, our original plan was to celebrate cinco de mayo on the 8th of may since that follows our usual sunday as the dinner days. however, it was brought to our attention that the 8th is the day for all to spoil their mom's! that's right, these two mama's boy's overlooked that day as being mother's day, and we in no way want to compete with that! we know better! instead, we have come up with sunday may 15th as the next date, still celebrating cinco de mayo, just a little late.
we will grace you with some traditional cinco de mayo favorites and dishes from the celebrated city of puebla (of course mole poblano will be one of the dishes prepared).
seats are available, but are limited, so grab them while you can!
last sunday was absolutely amazing! the food, the diners, the music, the drinks! it all came together to create quite the experience. we had some new guests as well as some familiar faces! it was a great way to break in the revamping of yo soy's mini facelift! spring is here, and we still have the fever! the creativeness is just oozing from our minds, so, stay tuned for the next dinner, because may is sure to be a great one!
p.s.- check out the photos in the "photos" section!
spring is finally here!
we are so excited and we just cannot hide it!
as promised in the last blog we have been up to some exciting things here at yo soy, one being that we have caught spring fever and we are in full "renewal" mode! the yo soy venue is under a mini facelift renovation as i type, and it's getting all of our creative juices flowing. another thing we are excited about is the dinner reso's we have for an underground dinner on monday! we always love to not only be part of the scene, but to partake in it! the last one we got to enjoy was xmarx chicago, and those kids know how to cook an amazing meal! we were so inspired by them, that we insisted they come to a yo soy dinner so we could pick their brains! they were part of the may yo soy dinner which was fantastic, and we were more than thrilled to have had them here! you can also imagine how elated we were to see them on the food network doing their thing on the show "unique eats"! check it out here! great job guys!
that being said, and while we freshen yo soy's appearance up, we are going to give you the chance to get your seat so that we may anticipate your beautiful faces! as usual, there is a $50 donation and it is a byob dinner with 5 courses and entertainment! most likely we will be hitting up a fierce game of loteria after the dessert course, so once again, we must ask all diners to bring some quarters to mark your loteria cards!
04.03.11 spring dinner is sold out.
please send an email to get on our list so that we may keep you updated on our next dinner, or any last minute cancellations!
