A bit about Yo Soy Underground supper :
We host unique dining experiences at museums, art galleries, cafés, private homes, and other non-traditional settings with the goal of redefining the way we dine and connect with food. Yo Soy's "Mexican Inspired" menu is theme-based and carefully assembled drawing from our travels, holidays, and other unique ideas not normally explored by restaurants.
The term "Underground Supper" refers to the fact that the culinary experiences created by Yo Soy are constantly on the move, and have a high elusive factor. The "Pop-Up Suppers" are more defined by the meal being held at numerous locations around the city of Chicago. Yo Soy "Pop Up's" are in traditional, or non-traditional restaurant locations and create experiences that are sometimes "one-time" only events or an ongoing once a month visiting chef experience. The setting of the meals consists of communal tables of food lovers, artists, adventurous diners, etc,. Diners are notified via social media or word of mouth about the supper, and are typically given disclosure of the location eight hours before the event is to take place. Seats to the events are available only through our website and limited in availability.
Yo Soy Underground Supper is a labor of love that has allowed foodies, friends and strangers to gather over the past five years, allowing us the opportunity to experiment with different recipes and menu items that we hope to one day showcase in our very own restaurant. We cannot wait to meet and feed you!

julio 24th!

the day is set! sunday! july 24th is our next dinner and we are super excited to keep our summer freshness going! we have been at the market every week, and we are peeking (yes, peeking, not picking, i am mexican, but my accent is not that thick! lol!) some great farm fresh items that we can share with you all! there has been a lot of street festivals, bbq's, and food festivals happening here in chicago, and we want to keep within that theme for our next dinner! we will, of course, always have our mexican meets chinese twist to all of our dishes, so don't fret, we still stay funky!

we will be posting some menu items through out the week as we experiment, and you are welcomed to feedback. in the meantime, to reserve your seats we have posted the paypal button and encourage you to grab your seats sooner than later, we are limited in what we can accommodate!

we have currently sold out of seats for the 24th dinner. please check back, or send us an email and let us know if you would like to be added to the waitlist. at times, we have last minute seats available that open up, at which point we will contact you (at least with 24 hour notice) and let you know if there are any seats. sorry for those that couldn't snatch a seat, please keep checking back with us just in case something arises!

vida vivida.

we have sad news to report. our great neighbor and friend has passed away unexpectedly this past weekend. to all who have visited our much loved local wine shop, kafka wine co., the co-owner joe (joey) kafka has passed away. we are completely shocked, and heartbroken, and send nothing but all of our thoughts and prayers and love to his family and to alex and michael over at kafka. if you would like to show your love for him and to pay your respects, please see the following article in the chicago tribune.

goodbye doll, and may all the wine in heaven be as delicious as the wine in your store! yo soy will definitely miss your wisdom and wit, but will always remember your brightness!

dinner this domingo pasado.....

sunday's dinner was full of light, cooling, satisfying summer surprises for all the senses! we started the evening off with a grilled pineapple + schezuan peppercorn + mezcal margarita! it was smoky, light and definitely set the tone for a great al fresco meeting of all the diners! the first course, which was served al fresco as we sipped our libations, was ceviche! picture this, octopus, bay scallops, shrimp, all served on a rice wafer topped with roasted black sesame seeds for some pop!

we then hurried inside for some fresh, cool air, and our next course which was a white gazpacho! it had just the perfect amount of tang, savory, and tartness from the grapes that it had nods of agreeance throughout all of the tables!

we then went to the show stopping watermelon + avocado + heirloom tomato course (pictured above). that's when we had the flashes! flashes from all the iphone photograph taking, that is, not hot flashes!

moving to the main, which was an inspiration from my dad's recipe, was the carne asada! being that the dinner was held on father's day, it seemed appropriate to squeeze some love in to my dad on his special day! it was juicy, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth tender grilled skirt steak! we served the carne asada with a deconstructed elotes (grilled corn on the cob with black truffle aioli and queso fresco and chili) and pickled cabbage slaw! i wish my dad was at this dinner, he would have definitely approved! (hint, hint, dad, you need to come visit!)

lastly was the isla flotante! the floating island! it is a meringue dish that is surrounded by a sea of creamy decadence speckled with achiote oil! cannot rave enough about this dish! please see the photo section to catch glimpses of the island! it is one i wouldn't mind being stranded on!

to end the evening we had diva kai come to perform for the group! she is an amazingly talented friend, who we at yo soy cannot get enough of! please, please check her out, you will be amazed!

stay tuned for what we have up our sleeves next week!

día de padre! viva june!

june is here! finally! We thought we would never see this day! goodbye blizzards, goodbye sleet, goodbye white covering our grounds! hello green! With the sun shining down on our faces and the warm scent of summer in the air, we are coming up with a menu for Sunday June.19th's dinner. look for cooling courses, smokey meats, and satisfying cocktails! Since it is a praise to dad (by chronologically being on father's day) we are going to have a dinner theme of "OH NO THEY DADN'T"! get it, dadn't instead of didn't! hahahaa! ok, enough of that, but seriously, it is going to be a fantastic dinner with dad in mind since it is his day to be spoiled.

we are setting the time for 6pm on Sunday June 19th, 2011! so if you, and daddy, know best you would grab your seats here and now! we will post soon with updates on menu items that we have come up with!

til' then,
