A bit about Yo Soy Underground supper :
We host unique dining experiences at museums, art galleries, cafés, private homes, and other non-traditional settings with the goal of redefining the way we dine and connect with food. Yo Soy's "Mexican Inspired" menu is theme-based and carefully assembled drawing from our travels, holidays, and other unique ideas not normally explored by restaurants.
The term "Underground Supper" refers to the fact that the culinary experiences created by Yo Soy are constantly on the move, and have a high elusive factor. The "Pop-Up Suppers" are more defined by the meal being held at numerous locations around the city of Chicago. Yo Soy "Pop Up's" are in traditional, or non-traditional restaurant locations and create experiences that are sometimes "one-time" only events or an ongoing once a month visiting chef experience. The setting of the meals consists of communal tables of food lovers, artists, adventurous diners, etc,. Diners are notified via social media or word of mouth about the supper, and are typically given disclosure of the location eight hours before the event is to take place. Seats to the events are available only through our website and limited in availability.
Yo Soy Underground Supper is a labor of love that has allowed foodies, friends and strangers to gather over the past five years, allowing us the opportunity to experiment with different recipes and menu items that we hope to one day showcase in our very own restaurant. We cannot wait to meet and feed you!

yo soy's secret + surprise supper party!

this past sunday, yo soy was secretly booked by a group of great friends of a yo soy regular (jorge). we prepared a three course meal that contained all of the favorites of jorge, along with a performance by his favorite local yo soy performer, stephen leonard (see photo section). it was a magical moment, and one that was so moving, that it reminded us of what we do this for. meals are not only about the food, but the memories created, the emotions evoked, and the stories that go around the table the food is served at. it was an honor for us to be contacted to host this special moment, and one that is to be looked back upon with a huge smile and warmth in our hearts! feliz cumpleaños, jorge....may all of your birthday wishes come true.

menu served:

shrimp + chorizo sopes with cumin spiced black beans and baby bok choy

cinnamon + ginger + piloncillo spiced ribs + mexican rice + chinese green beans

chinese 5 spiced chocoflan with candied camote

Fall! it's our favorite Season....

Change is in the air! Its the end of summer and the beginning of fall, the best of both seasons, and we get to explore the flavors we love. we are thrilled to share these with you all! Between the apples and squashes and all of the bounty we can catch at the farmers market, and on our own excursions out of the city, we are excited to plan out new and exciting menus! There will be some familiar flavors coming soon as we finalize the menu for the del corazón festival at the National Museum of Mexican art. This is a festival that we are stoked to be a part of, and as the name suggests, all of the items will be directly influenced by our hearts, either the soup that made Mikey fall for me, or favorites from our repertoire, everything is going to build up to a very special evening! Along with dinner and cocktails we will host not the normal one performer but three! Plus all of the beautiful artwork at the museum! What! This will be on November the 12 th, its a Saturday, so try and plan ahead as this may be a bit away but we anticipate a great demand and would love to see all of our favorite people at the party! So get your tickets!! With this on the horizon and October amidst us we look forward to sharing all of our new ideas and inspirations with you! Stay tuned for more amazing adventures!

the view on a recent outing for the end of the seasons best!

full moon was in full effect!

we had an amazing dinner last night that was accented with some great guests and special moments throughout the evening! we met some great people, and noticed a lot of friend requests around facebook this morning from last night's guests! we live for these bonds that are formed over our yo soy dinners and that continue to bud! so let's give the dish on last nights dishes! the welcome cocktail we had for our diners was a mi"china"lada! micheladas are a traditional mexican beverage of choice on sundays. our yo soy recipe was tomato juice + tabasco + lime + soy sauce + tsing tao beer + white pepper! it was delicious, and it was paired with vegetable potstickers that had a papaya+ chili dipping sauce. we then moved inside for dinner (the chicago september "iffy" weather forced it, trust me, i wanted to be outside) where we had the following menu ready to go!:

  • mexico libre salad : chinese long beans + daikon + beets + schezuan peppercorn viniagrette
  • mole bao : mexican mole + chinese buns + carrott star anise puree
  • triple "p" stew : pozole + potstickers + puerco + cabbage +radish + onions
  • full moon cheesecake : calabaza + cheesecake + squash blossom wrapped chinese pear

we closed out the evening with the talented kyle greer and vallery dolls! they were an added dessert course for our diners and we could not get enough! we were belting musicals, cover songs and laughing and enjoying some originals that they have come up with! a-m-a-z-i-n-g talent! if you have a chance to catch up with them, do it! learn more about kyle and vallery here! kylegreerocks.com + vallery dolls

side note: kyle has a show on october.7th at ace bar in chicago!

the meal was extraordinary and truly celebrated mexican independence day as well as the chinese full moon festival. each course utilized the dishes that are celebrated in both culutes during these festivals , as well as with keeping with what's fresh and in season!

we are busy planning our yo soy october supper, as well as our huge event that is coming up in november! we have paired up with the national museum of mexican art for their annual del corazon festival! we are so proud to be a part of this celebration and we are stoked to release the details soon, as well as start offering the seats for this monumental yo soy dinner!
