A bit about Yo Soy Underground supper :
We host unique dining experiences at museums, art galleries, cafés, private homes, and other non-traditional settings with the goal of redefining the way we dine and connect with food. Yo Soy's "Mexican Inspired" menu is theme-based and carefully assembled drawing from our travels, holidays, and other unique ideas not normally explored by restaurants. 
The term "Underground Supper" refers to the fact that the culinary experiences created by Yo Soy are constantly on the move, and have a high elusive factor. The "Pop-Up Suppers" are more defined by the meal being held at numerous locations around the city of Chicago. Yo Soy "Pop Up's" are in traditional, or non-traditional restaurant locations and create experiences that are sometimes "one-time" only events or an ongoing once a month visiting chef experience. The setting of the meals consists of communal tables of food lovers, artists, adventurous diners, etc,. Diners are notified via social media or word of mouth about the supper, and are typically given disclosure of the location eight hours before the event is to take place. Seats to the events are available only through our website and limited in availability.
Yo Soy Underground Supper is a labor of love that has allowed foodies, friends and strangers to gather over the past five years, allowing us the opportunity to experiment with different recipes and menu items that we hope to one day showcase in our very own restaurant. We cannot wait to meet and feed you!

dia de los muertos supper- celebrity edición 

We loathe the time of the year when the weather is no longer bright, hot and sunny, but we love to celebrate Dia de los Muertos and that is exactly what the fall brings us, so we will take it! Chicago is officially in Fall season and that means we are preparing recipes and menus that will be filled to the brim with apples, cinammon, pumpkins, rich gravies, etc. It also means we get to belaud one of Mexico's biggest reason to get dressed up and eat and drink like there is no tommorow, DIA DE LOS MUERTOS! for those unfamiliar, it is a holiday that is celebrated in many different ways, but mainly it is set aside for you to remember loved ones who have passed and honor their life by making ofrendas either at their gravesite or in your home. ofrendas are make shift altars that are all very unique since they are made to host the foods, drink, and favorite items of a deceased love one. Typically, friends and family would gather and share great memories of the loved one who has passed on and celebrate life by over-indulging (in our case) in the favored foods and beverages of the deceased. DISCLOSURE: The definition we have stated here is a very broad and shortened version, but you get the gist.

We are going to celebrate this fantastic holiday by creating a meal with the core idea of "honoring loved ones that have passed", but the dearly departed we will be honoring via food are not any of our family members, but celebrities that are no longer with us. We are just like anybody else, just because we love food and are particluar about comida, and snobs about spices, doesn't mean we don't have our guilty pleasure of love for celebrities! #dontjudge

We will pay homeage and turn our communal dining table into a edible ofrenda where we will prepare a five course meal that is to celebrate the lives of some of our favorite celebrities that have made a journey to the pearly gates. Each course we will present will honor a different celebrity. We cannot wait! We are so excited about it that we cannot wait to share some of the menu items/celebrity tributes, so here is a sneak peek into some ideas that will be incorporated into the meal:

SELENA (duh! you knew we have to have her) : Amole prohibido (forbidden rice, mole)

JOAN RIVERS ( double duh!) : Rio Grande (matzo ball, mexican chile, pozole)

We are looking forward to creating a magnificent meal next weekend all Inspired by our last few days of summer and Indian cuisine! The September Seats have officially sold out (actually over-sold, but we will make room!). Our next supper is slated for October 25th and 26th! October seats will be ready for purchase this week. The theme for next months meal is yet to be revealed, but we do have a hint to drop: It is a meal to "die" for!

Mexico is Awesome. India is Amazing. Summer is Fantastic. If you add all of those together and combine the foods from all three of the aforementioned you will have an awesome-filled, amazingly fantastical meal! That is exactly what we are planning on doing with the few remaining days of summer (which calendar-ly speaking, ends September 22nd) that we have left of the sun showering us. #toosoon
We will embark on a culinary exploration with the last bounty of Summer and two of the world's most renowned cultures and cuisines : Mexican and Indian! Since we are fresh from our first adventure in the wonderful, spice-satiated Mother india, we are filled to the brim with ideas on how to make the magic that we taste-witnessed come to life here in Chicago. Of course, all with our spin of Mexican cuisine at our base to ensure the fun factor remains high and intact! 
We will keep staple Mexican dishes in the forefront while we speckle them with the unique flavors of Southern and Northern India, so think chicken tikka tamales, nacho-inspired pani puri's, etc. We kept a keen palate (an open gullets) as we journeyed throughout the customs, signature dishes and cultures of the polar regions of India ( New Delhi and Cochin). The five course meal we will present will offer tweaked delicacies we experienced that span the humble Indian street food scene, ceremonial dishes, and even dishes served in India's highly acclaimed restaurants and hotels from those regions. This supper is sure to be a fiery one, we think it will instill some inner heat in you to help get you through those chilly autumn and stone cold winter months we will have to soon face. Be sure to grab your seat soon, they tend to go as quick as a tuk tuk in crowded Indian traffic!

We are doing research now, in India as we type, on our next supper slated for Saturday September 20th and Sunday 21st for Yo Soy's September "Indian Summer" supper. The menu will be an exciting and spice filled Mexican and Indian culinary exploration of epic proportions!
